Kusasa Stars
Using football to promote education and life skills whilst engaging in a life-changing experience, playing at the largest football tournament in the world, the Gothia Cup.
At The Kusasa Stars, we are passionate about providing youths with a different perspective on what life has to offer outside their disadvantaged and humble beginnings.
It’s more than just a football tournament: For our players, it is a voyage supported by an educational and community framework, where attitude, school attendance, individual grade advancement, and sporting prowess are tracked as part of the journey.
The World Youth Cup also is known as The Gothia Cup takes place annually in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is a life-changing experience for our players, that creates friendships and builds contacts with children from different countries and continents, giving them a global sense of belonging and opening up their minds and aspirations to the world beyond their own environment.
Football is important but educating the boys and opening their eyes to a world of opportunity and showing nothing is impossible is the main aim of the journey to Sweden.
Gothia Cup 2022
This year 12 boys and 12 girls aged between 15-16 years will make up our two teams. We will again travel to the island of Roro for team building pre-tournament camp, and will then make way by boat to our Gothenburg base for Gothia at Alingsas.
Gothia is so much more than just a football tournament for our boys, it’s a way to give these kids a different perspective on what life has to offer and to provide underprivileged children with a different perspective, make new friendships and grow as individuals. We are hoping that it will impact & change their lives, encouraging them to continue with their education.
Gothia Cup 2019
This year 24 boys aged between 11-13 years will make up our two teams in the U12 and U13 category. We will again travel to the island of Roro for team building pre-tournament camp, and will then make way by boat to our Gothenburg base for Gothia at Alingsas.

Gothia Cup 2018
The Kusasa Star’s first year, 19 disadvantaged boys from Groendal, Western Cape succeeded as the first team from The Franschhoek valley to take part in The Gothia World Youth Cup. An event that saw them take parts as 1 of 1731 teams, from 78 different nations. A tournament that saw 4424 matches played and 19506 goals scored.
An additional benefit in 2018 was the 1400kg of donated clothes brought back for the children of the Groendal area. The team left with 5 bags and returned with 55 bags to be shared among the community.
Since the 2018 event, school grades of The Kusasa Star potential/players have significantly increased. Due to this some of the boys selected for 2019 are returning as a reward for their amazing school achievements.
